Santa Fe Springs Serves Up a New Stage for Volleyball, Community and Opportunity

The future of American volleyball is coming to Santa Fe Springs. 

The City has announced a landmark 10-year partnership with —the national governing body for the sport recognized by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. The agreement positions Santa Fe Springs as a major destination for volleyball training and competition as Southern California prepares to host the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games. 

At the center of the partnership is a state-of-the-art, 121,000-square-foot sports destination designed to bring elite athletic competition, community recreation and economic opportunity together in one place. The partnership is expected to generate 28 full-time and 41 part-time positions, for a total of 69 permanent jobs, while drawing thousands of athletes, families and visitors to Santa Fe Springs throughout the year. This creates new opportunities for local restaurants, shops, and other businesses and establishes the City as a premier location for volleyball and other sports. Securing this agreement reflects Santa Fe Springs’ proactive approach to economic development and its ability to compete for significant investment. The City successfully competed against larger regional cities to secure the project, a testament to Santa Fe Springs’ business-friendly and business-minded approach.  

That approach is part of the broader economic strength of the BIG 4, a coalition of four industrial cities working to advance shared economic and regional priorities. Santa Fe Springs’ success in attracting this project demonstrates how an industrial community can leverage its business environment, strategic location and economic-development focus to compete for new and diverse opportunities. "Securing this project over larger cities proves that Santa Fe Springs is a top-tier destination for major investment," said City Manager René Bobadilla. 

"We’ve delivered a high-impact development that creates local jobs, boosts businesses, and delivers long-term economic benefits." The new facility will feature 20 championship volleyball and basketball courts, providing a venue for sanctioned tournaments, clinics and training programs more than 40 weekends each year. The first tournaments are expected to begin in December 2026, with the full facility anticipated to be operational in January 2027. As a USA Volleyball affiliate, Legacy Sports Complex will provide an important West Coast location for sanctioned USA Volleyball programming, training, competition and athletic development. Beginning in 2027, USA Volleyball’s men’s, women’s, and Paralympic teams are expected to periodically use the facility for practice and training, bringing some of the nation’s top athletes to Santa Fe Springs.

 With the 2028 Games approaching, the facility also creates the potential to become a global training destination for international volleyball teams seeking a premier Southern California location to practice and prepare for Olympic competition. The facility will also include 12 pickleball courts open to the community, giving Santa Fe Springs residents of all ages access to a world-class facility for one of the nation’s fastest-growing sports. Just as important, the facility will include a dedicated commitment to local youth and families, with community programming and court access designed to give Santa Fe Springs kids the opportunity to play, train and pursue their athletic dreams close to home.

By combining championship-level competition with community access, youth programming and local economic development, the new destination will help create a lasting sports legacy in Santa Fe Springs. The partnership represents a significant investment in the future of Santa Fe Springs and a vision for a community where world-class sports and everyday community life come together.
