Baseball Recap: Santa Fe Chiefs vs. El Rancho Dons

Santa Fe dropped down to 12-14 on Wednesday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the El Rancho Dons by a score of 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Chiefs have suffered since March 23rd.

Josiah Acosta was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Acosta was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Devin Mota was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

As for El Rancho, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 16-11. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

On El Rancho's side, Daniel Reyes looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Reyes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Esteban Lopez, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was David Padilla, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

While Santa Fe had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
