Light Search and Rescue Training
The City of Santa Fe Spring’s, Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) program was developed to provide basic training in safety and lifesaving skills for the general public.
CERT educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their communities and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT volunteers can assist others in their community following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available to help.
CERT training is divided into sessions or lessons-
This lesson offers classroom training in light search and rescue. It focuses on rescuer safety and reviews special size up issues for search and rescue operations.
When disaster strikes, everyone wants to help. Be prepared to assist in a safe and effective manner. Disaster survivors may need help, but untrained, spontaneous rescuers can place themselves in dangerous situations and become victims.
CERT members are trained to size up the situation to determine the risk involved. Rescuer safety is always the first priority when determining if rescuing others should be attempted.
You will receive classroom training in sizing up the situation and assisting lightly trapped victims in light search and rescue. This training will enable you to protect your own safety while rescuing the greatest number of victims in the shortest time possible.
It will provide an overview of search and rescue operations and explain the important role of size up in search and rescue.
